Beverly Newberg

Beverly (Ellsworth) Cotteral Newberg, 92, of Middletown, beloved wife of Maurice "Sutzie" Newberg, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016 at The Atrium in Rocky Hill. Born in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late H. William and Beatrice (Mott) Ellsworth.

Beverly attended Westbrook Jr. College in Portland, Maine and was a graduate of the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Boston, MA.
Her early affiliations were at the Wesleyan University Infirmary and the Newington Veterans Hospital. At the Middlesex Memorial Hospital, she was an Assistant Head Nurse, Evening Hospital Supervisor, Director of Inservice Education, and Director of Clinical Training for the Medical Secretarial and Assistant Course at Middlesex Community College. In later years, she was a school nurse in the Middletown School System. Other affiliations where charter member of Portland Historical Society, member of Wadsworth Chapter D.A.R., New England Baptist Hospital Alumnae Association, honorary alumnae of Wilcox School of Nursing at Middlesex Hospital, Connecticut Nurses Association, and American Nurses Association.

Beverly was a lifetime member of Portland's Trinity Episcopal Church, Altar Guild Directress, Women of Trinity, Vestry member and Senior Warden. For seven years, she was coordinator of Trinity Church School, a board member and Vice President of the Trinity Cemetery Association, and Chairperson of the Rev. Edward T. and Sally T. Scholarship Fund.

Besides her husband, Beverly is survived by her sister, Joan Post and her husband James of Cromwell; two nephews, H. William Ellsworth, III and his wife, Cathleen, of Greenwich, Keith Post and his wife Stephanie of Colchester; two nieces, Joan Petrosino and her husband, Christopher of Long Island, NY and Deborah Brennan of Hamden and eight grand nephews and nieces, Christopher Petrosino, Michael Ellsworth, Matthew Ellsworth, Steven Post, Claire Petrosino, Anne Marie Petrosino, Josslyn Post and Jillian Post.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, H. William Ellsworth.
